Nayomie’s eExperiences

Sharing my eLExp Experiences from UTS and Beyond ………….

My Personal eJourney

5/08/07:

Well today’s task is to write a blurb about how I feel about the technology and eLearning Experiences I have had so far in my UTS class.

I have had a lot of fun learning about and playing around with the new technologies we have been introduced to. Lets start at the beginning shall we?

Week One was interesting. I walked into the computer lab to be confronted with a beautiful shiny white MAC! That was a learning experience in itself. For someone who is fairly competent navigating my way around a PC it was like starting at the beginning again.

Anne quickly put everyone at ease likening the experience to driving a manual and automatic car. Great I thought; I can drive both so this should be a piece of cake.

We are now in week six and I can honestly say that Anne was right it only took a couple of weeks to get the hang of using a MAC. Apple C and Apple V are my new best friends and I am remembering that all the important stuff is on the opposite side of the screen. The BIG delete key is actually for backspacing, and other than that it has pretty much been smooth sailing. I do rather like the look and feel of a MAC., but long for the well worn familiarity of my PC.

Setting up my Del.ici.ous account was great fun and so easy I had done it before the first class. I have imported my personal favourites from IE on my home computer and can now access them from anywhere which is great.

Setting up my Netvibes account was also heaps of fun. Customising the way it displays and the tabs I wanted was also quite easy. I learn’t a lot about RSS feeds in the process. The only criticism I have is that a lot of the available feeds are American; obviously as the site is America!

Now to the Blog, my favourite task to date. This was so much fun creating and customising my own personal site. I think it looks great!

The biggest problem I have experienced so far is that I tend to get carried away and caught up in the technology and do not devote time for the other subjects I am studying. Every time I turn on my computer I seem to spend a couple of hours playing around. I have to get tougher on myself and do the other things first then the eLearning stuff. Maybe I can use it as a reward!
