Week One – 16/10/08:
I have coined a new phrase “wikifrustration abounds” – I have have just lost all my work despite saving it
In the end it worked out O.K and I completed all the required activities. One could say I am very stubborn and extremely determined! Thanks Karen for being a supportive collaborative learner and helping me out when the technology failed me.
Regardless it has been a great week and I have thoroughly enjoyed myself. The voice thread technology was new to me and I found it quite interesting and engaging.
I would most certainly ensure I spent a fair bit of time assisting / allowing the learners in my class to become familiar with the technology, tools and equipment required. It was suggested by Anne Bartlett Bragg (eLearning Lecturer at the University of Technology in Sydney) who I had for eLExp (eLearning Experiences) in 2007 at UTS that three weeks would be an appropriate amount of time to allow for this to occur.

hey – did I say that?
Introducing a new technology to learners could take anything from 5 minutes to 12 weeks… depending upon the complexity of the technology and their levels of digital (computer) literacy.
However, well designed – as in user-centred designed – software applications should take less… allowing you, the educator, to spend time on the learning activities – not teaching people how to use software!
Best example i can think of to illustrate this – my 81yr father-in-law did not have to be taught how to use Facebook! Once he was logged in (I helped here) – he went wild… exploring and adding and contributing!
Now – recall our class… how many people did that?
PS. Always back up your work… it’s a horrible feeling when it all just vanishes into thin air..
